Sixteen children, ages ranging from 13-17, were called in missing by their families last weekend. The FBI made a crackdown on sex trafficking surrounding the Super Bowl weekend. In child exploitation cases like this, law enforcement officials said operations are designed to remove the young victims from a life of exploitation and abuse. The young people were taken by pimps facing emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. "This is the most recoveries we've had at one time", Michael Osborne of the FBI's Violent Crimes Against Children Unit told ABC News.

Boston Marathon Suspect
The final decision was made regarding Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and the death penalty today. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was twin brother of Tamerlan, who were both involved in the Boston Marathon bombing killing 3 people and leaving hundreds wounded. Prosecutors allege that Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan, ethnic Chechens from Russia who had lived in the Boston area for about a decade, planted two pressure cooker bombs near the finish line. Tamerlan Tsarnaev died in a shootout with police. Dzhokhar pleads not guilty even tho there is enough evidence to call that he is guilty. Ok

Day-time Sleeping Throws Genes Off
Staying awake at night and sleeping during the day affects your natural body clock, and that negatively affects everything. Researchers from the Surrey Sleep Research Centre in England
disrupted the sleep patterns of 22 test subjects by letting them sleep at night the first day of the study and then forcing them to sleep from noon until 6:30 p.m. on the second and third days of the study. After taking blood samples, the doctors found gene activity to be impaired. According, to Everyday Health, "Genes carry the instructions for making proteins. Proteins make up just about every kind of chemical signal, hormone and tissue in the body... The timing of when proteins are made is important because their production should correspond to our behaviors." Therefore, 8 hours of sleep every NIGHT is essential.

Frat's MLK-themed Party
A Fraternity chapter from ASU is being questioned after throwing a Martin Luther King Jr. themed party where kids dressed in stereotypical hip-hop clothes and drank out of watermelon cups. Local civil rights activist Rev. Jarrett Maupin is demanding that the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, which was already on probation for fighting with a rival frat before the incident, be kicked off campus. Images are circulating on social media of partygoers wearing baggy basketball jerseys, gang-affiliated colored T-shirts and bandanas. The kids also appeared to flash gang signs in the photos and used hashtags such as #blackoutformlk and #ihaveadream.

SNOW DAY
This morning, Gibraltar Area Schools students woke up either excited or disappointed school closed down due to the weather conditions. This is the 5th school closing or delay in a two week period. Students are getting quite flustered with all the school cancellations because because after all, finals week IS next week and there is a lot of work to be done. However an estimated 80% of kids were pumped because of the extra day that was given to them to procrastinate and hold off on their homework one more night. In other words, keep doing what you're doing Gibraltar!

Marijuana Daily
A recent study shows that 60% of 12th grade students in the United States don't think marijuana usage is harmful. This number has gone up from previous studies. 6.5% of seniors say they smoke daily a number that has tripled from 1993. And 23% of students said they had smoked in the past month. Within the past 2 decades, THC levels in weed have gone up significantly from 3.75 to 15% in today's marijuana cigarettes. What is most concerning is that 12% of 13-15 year olds are using the hallucinogenic drug. But the good news is that cigarette smoking and harder drug use including heroin and cocaine continued on a steady decline among high school students.
